Mike Francesa: Uncut and Unhinged
Yesterday, I caught about three minutes of Francesa on the Fan. Better put, I caught about three minutes too many of Francesa on the Fan.
I don’t know exactly what set him off, but when I tuned in, he was in the middle of a rant about his favorite former co-host against whom he doesn’t hold a grudge-the Mad Dog.
I don’t have the transcript, but I can give you the gist.
It all boils down to the fact that Francesa just doesn’t get all the hostility coming from the Mad Dog. The way Francesa sees it, they’re not even competing. He’s just plugging along, doing his show, minding his own business. Incidentally, his business is doing a lot better now that the Mad Dog’s gone. Like, up from number five to number two better.
He told us that in the middle of telling us how they’re not competing.
Oh, and by the way, he just signed a five-year deal for twice the amount that he had previously been paid. That doesn’t sound to him like someone whose ratings are struggling. And also, by the way, that’s not bragging because it’s a fact. You can look it up.
I guess, as it turns out, anytime you say something that’s verifiable, it’s never bragging.
Good to know.
What really bothers Francesa, though, is that he hates to have to even mention the fact that he’s been signed to a contract for so much money, especially during these troubled economic times. He doesn’t want to rub it in anyone’s face. Only he had to. Because the Mad Dog started it.
So, FYI, everyone, the Mad Dog obviously doesn’t care about you and your financial woes. And now I hate him.
Finally, Francesa closed with a declaration that the Mad Dog could feel free to cheer for ESPN to beat him in the ratings. Why? Because ESPN needs all the help they can get. God bless that sad little operation. What does Francesa care? Because when it comes to beating out WFAN, it’s never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever going to happen. Not as long as he’s around, anyway.
Not to mention the fact that this isn’t a competition.

Magnificent. Magnanimous Mike makes millions modestly–Melanie makes much mirth.
I can’t wait till the baseball news is about pitchers and catchers and we can try to ignore the retiring football players, plea deals by former MVP’s, and spats between sports radio hosts!
