The Curious Case Of Pedro Martinez
A couple days back, Pedro told the world that he would be willing to consider playing ball for anyone who expressed anything resembling something like interest in him.
Torre heard Pedro and he responded with all the eagerness of someone who has something resembling something like interest in him, commenting, “I can’t say, ‘No, we have no interest at all. It’s hard to say right now.”
You see, Pedro speaks, and people listen.
In a display of his own overwhelming lukewarm interest, Ned Colletti commented, “He’s someone we’re curious about.”
“I think I share Ned’s comment about the curiosity,” echoed Torre.
Curious–the adjective to which every great ballplayer aspires.
But a note to Torre and Colletti: Unlike Benjamin Button, Pedro is not aging in reverse. As time goes by, he just keep getting older.
